The cosmetology course in The Hair Academy trains students in theoretical and practical skills for entry-level positions in cosmetology or related careers. Students must complete and pass the theory lectures and practical classes in the clinic before participating in laboratory activities. Prospective students must be at least 16 years old, have completed at least 10 grades in school, and submit a health certificate that's no more than one year old, with dates and results of a chest x-ray or a skin test. Classes at The Hair Academy begin on the first Tuesday of January, April, June and October. Classes are held Tuesday through Saturday.
Virginia College at Montgomery offers a diploma program that provides students with a basic understanding of cosmetology. Students will learn through hands-on training and be trained in professionalism, talent development and people skills. The school offers career and job placement support and experience working in V's Student Cosmetology Services, a retail outlet operated by students under the supervision of licensed faculty members. To apply, you must have a high school diploma or GED. Seventy-two quarter credit hours are required, which may be completed in four quarters. The cosmetology program is offered Tuesday through Saturday.
Trenholm State Technical College will complete four terms in "Certificate in Cosmetology," a total of two terms for "Specialized Training Certificate in Cosmetology Instructor Training," and a total of five terms for "Specialized Training Certificate in Cosmetology," which emphasizes hair shaping and cosmetic applications, chemical applications, and nail techniques. Prospective students must be at least 16 years old, have completed at least 10 grades in school or its equivalent and must submit a health card with results of a tuberculosis test or chest x-ray. The length of the cosmetology program is based on full-time enrollment of 12 to 15 credit hours per term.
Located about 30 minutes from Montgomery, J.F. Ingram State Technical College offers a cosmetology course in the Tutwiler Center, near Wetumpka, Alabama. The 27-credit hour program, totaling 15 semester hours or more, combines classroom theory with hands-on practice. Upon completion, students receive a Specialized Training Certificate. Some of the courses include Chemical Methodology, Hair Coloring Theory and Basic Spa Techniques Lab. Electives include Nail Art, Cosmetology Salon Practices and Career and Professional Development. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
