West Kentucky Community & Technical College provides certificate and diploma programs through its Allied Health & Personal Services Division. The department designs its department to adhere to the guidelines needed to pass the Kentucky Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists examination. Students need to complete at least four semesters and 60 credit hours to earn their cosmetology diploma.
To earn a certificate in cosmetology, students much complete at least 54 credit hours. The cosmetology department is on the second floor of the Anderson Building. Students work at the on-site lab, making appointments, cleaning the lab and sterilizing equipment. Students get to hone their skills on real customers under the supervision of a certified instructor.

Ezell's Cosmetology School is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences and approved by the U.S. Department of Education. The school provides Federal Pell grants and student loans to qualifying applicants. Students complete this program in approximately 14 months, or 1800 credit hours. The course includes hair design, skin care, manicures and pedicures.
The school does not offer evening or weekend classes. As students get close to completing their programs, the school provides job placement services. Ezell's instructor training prepares licensed cosmetologists for careers as instructors. The 1,000-hour course prepares students for Kentucky State Board Testing.

Ashland Community & Technical College offers diplomas and certificates in cosmetology. To receive a diploma in cosmetology, students must complete 63 credit hours, which require 14 months to two years. A certificate in cosmetology requires at least 54 credit hours. Apprentice cosmetology instructor programs for licensed cosmetologists who want to work as educators requires 39 credit hours.
Students receive clinical work experience by practicing on fellow students and the public, and graduates serve six-month apprenticeships before taking state board examinations. The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredits this program. The school offers financial aid and tuition payment plans.

Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center in Thelma offers a two-year program in cosmetology that covers 1800 hours of training. The Perkins Center, a division of the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, assists Kentucky residents with disabilities prepare for the work force.
The Kentucky OVR refers students to the center based on referrals from rehabilitation counselors. The Admissions Office at Perkins Center review applications and make decisions. The center accepts students every week and places potential students on a waiting list. The school provides housing and health services for students in the program.
