Miller-Motte offers an extensive program that include hairstyling, esthetics and skin care, nail technology and makeup artistry. Miller-Motte's hands-on classes help the students learn all the necessary skills required in a real salon. In addition, the class curriculum includes science and art principles to further prepare students for an entry-level job in the cosmetology industry. The students are permitted to choose a specialty and only take courses in that area. Miller-Motte is located in a state-of-the-art facility in Chattanooga and is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. Upon completion of the 10- to 18-month program, students receive a diploma.
Regency Beauty Institute teaches students about all aspects of the cosmetology industry. Its website states it teaches students about "the beauty business from A to Z." Regency offers both part-time and full-time programs, and is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences. The entire campus is modeled to resemble a salon atmosphere, which is designed to create a family-like, as well as professional, environment. Additionally, Regency offers job placement for recent graduates and hosts multiple career fairs and networking events throughout the program. The 10- to 18-month program also offers financial aid to qualified students, and flexible start dates.
Virginia College offers three different programs within the cosmetology department. These include the barber stylist program, the cosmetology program and the salon management program. All three programs accommodate both full- and part-time students and take 10 to 18 months to complete. Virginia College aims to imbue students with the professionalism that a career in cosmetology requires by offering experienced instructors and state-of-the-art facilities. Students also gain real-life experience through working at V's Student Cosmetology Services, the on-campus shop that is operated by and benefits students. In addition, Virginia College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools.
Alternative Visions was established in 1996 by Butch Guhne, who has more than 18 years' experience in the cosmetology industry. The academy has a skilled and equally experienced team of instructors. Both full- and part-time students are accommodated by Alternative Visions' day and night schedule of classes. The academy accepts students with a high school diploma, a G.E.D. certificate, or at least two years of high school completed; all applicants must be over the age of 16. The entire program runs 1,500 hours; upon completion students are eligible for graduation.
