The Akron Institute of Herzing University offers job-skills training for people pursuing a career in health care, information technology or business administration. It offers bachelor of science degrees in more than a dozen fields, and students graduating are helped in finding a job in the area. The Akron Institute is an accredited school. Colleges with the same type of accreditation include Ohio State University, Kent State University and University of Notre Dame.
Hondros College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. Its Akron/Canton, Ohio, campus is in Uniontown, Ohio. It offers job-skills training in real estate, appraisal, mortgage, insurance, home inspection, financial services and nursing. Hondros College students have the option of choosing from education packages. An example is the Value Start Package that has the four state-required real-estate courses: Real Estate Principles & Practices, Ohio Real Estate Law, Ohio Real Estate Finance, and Ohio Real Estate Appraisal. It has also offers casino training courses for people who want to become dealers at casinos. Students will learn baccarat, blackjack, craps, pai gow poker and tiles, poker and roulette.
People pursuing a diploma or an associate's degree in massage therapy may enroll at Ohio College of Massotherapy. The time it takes to become a massage therapist depends on the licensing laws in the state where a person wants to practice and whether minimum training or master training is desired. Minimum education can range from 330 to 1,000 contact, or hands-on, massage hours, so it can take from a few weeks to two years. There are several industries that hire massage therapists. Jobs are found at spas and resorts, airports, hospitals, fitness centers, nursing homes and sports medicine facilities. Therapists are also sometimes hired to travel to clients' homes.
The Akron CNC Training Center has teamed with the Cleveland Industrial Training Center to offer machinist training courses for programmers and operators. Its instructors have knowledge and experience as machinists. Classes and lab projects are conducted in S.C. Manufacturing. The school is registered with the State Board of Career Colleges and Schools.
The Portage Lakes Career Center offers job training and basic education. It offers counseling to help its students find a career and customizes short-term, full-time job training in business and manufacturing. It is part of the University System of Ohio and is accredited by the North Central Association, Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. Preregistration tests measure prospective students' mathematics skills, reading skills and skills reading charts, forms and blueprints.
