Career Technical College was established in Monroe in 1985 by Wayne McConnell and Jerry L. Mardis. The school offers Associate of Occupational Studies degrees, as well as diploma and testing programs. Associate programs include management, information processing, legal office technology, administrative office technology, criminal justice, massage therapy, medical assisting, surgical technology, radiography technology, medical office technology and respiratory therapy. Diploma programs are offered in massage therapy and medical office assistance. CTC is also a certified testing facility for Microsoft Office user specialists.
Unitech Training Academy was created in 1997. It is accredited by the Louisiana State Board of Regents as well as the Council on Occupational Education (COE). As of early 2011, Unitech offers training for employment in dental assisting, diagnostic ultrasound sonography, computer information systems, EKG or phlebotomy technician, physical therapy technician, pharmacy technician preparedness, administrative medical assistant and massage therapy. Online courses include accounting fundamentals, photography and project management. The school also offers financial aid assistance through Federal Student Aid.
Cloyd's Beauty School has been in operation since 1955. It was founded by Oscar and Ruby Cloyd. Cloyd's has accreditation through the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences (NACCAS). As of 2011, the school offers training in basic cosmetology, instructor training, manicuring, and esthetics and skin care. Financial aid is available through Federal Student Aid. A spa and clinic are operated out of the school as well, where students and staff offer a variety of coloring and style services.
The University of Louisiana opened its campus in Monroe in 1933. As of 2011, the school has approximately 7,500 undergraduate students and 800 postgraduate students. ULM offers a variety of trade programs out of its Monroe campus. Trades degrees include an Associate of Science degree in occupational therapy assistance, a Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene, a Bachelor of Science in construction management, and a certificate of gerontological studies. Online course options include radiologic technology and dental hygiene.
