Schools for Construction Trades in Colorado

As of 2011, the state of Colorado licenses electricians, electrical contractors and plumbers, but colleges and training institutes across the state offer certification programs in all construction trades. While the majority of trade schools are in the Denver metro area, several colleges across the state also offer training and certification programs. Carpenters; electricians; plumbers; concrete workers; painters; heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) system installers; construction managers; renewable energy installers; and other construction trade workers can all receive certification and training.
  1. Denver Trade Schools

    • Westwood College has two campuses, in north and south Denver, offering associate's and bachelor's degree programs in construction management. Redstone College offers an associate's degree in construction management and diploma or associate's degree in HVAC/R. Lincoln College of Technology has an HVAC training program. Emily Griffith Opportunity School offers carpentry, concrete finishing, construction trades, electrical and power transmission installer, electrician, glazier, lineworker, masonry, painter and wall coverer, pipefitter and sprinkler fitter, plumbing and related water supply services and plumbing technology certification programs. Ecotech Institute in Denver, opened in 2010, has a sole focus on renewable energy and sustainable design, including programs in electrical engineering, renewable energy, solar energy and wind energy technology.

    Denver Metro Area Trade Schools

    • Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, at the south end of Denver metro area, offers an associate's degree in construction management and an Active Solar Thermal Systems Technician certificate. In Denver's west metro area, Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood offers associate's and certification programs in construction trades, electricity and plumbing technology. In Denver's east metro area, Pickens Technical College offers certification programs in carpentry, electricity, cabinetmaking and millwork, construction technology, HVAC and renewable energy.

    Other Colorado Cities Trade Schools

    • Colorado Springs is located about 70 miles south of Denver and is home to Pikes Peak Community College, which offers associate's and certification programs in building/construction finishing management and inspection. Grand Junction, in western Colorado, is home to Mesa State College, which has a two-year division, Western Colorado Community College, that focuses on technical training and offers an associate's program in construction trades. Intellitec College has two Colorado campuses in Colorado Springs and Grand Junction, both of which offer architectural and mechanical drafting programs. Intellitec's Colorado Springs campus also offers an HVAC/R program.

    Rural Colorado Trade Schools

    • In southwestern Colorado, Mancos has been home to San Juan Basin Technical College since 1971. In 2008, the college formed an educational partnership with Pueblo Community College and now operates as Southwest Colorado Community College. The college serves Colorado's southwest communities and offers a certification program in construction technologies. In southeastern Colorado, Trinidad State Junior College is the oldest community college in Colorado, with campuses in Trinidad and Alamosa. Trinidad offers an associate's program in construction trades.
