Niagara College provides a one-year construction techniques certificate program for students who wish to train in the construction industry. A certificate in drafting is also available. Students seeking further education may apply the construction techniques coursework to the next level of education at Niagara, the renovation technician program. Coursework includes blueprint reading for construction trades, building construction, architectural drafting, residential estimating, trims and finishes, building codes and specifications and applied technical mathematics for construction trades. Applicants are required to be 19 or older or 18 with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

The Fanshawe College School of Building Technology offers three areas of study for people interested in the construction industry: construction carpentry techniques, construction engineering technology management and construction engineering technician supervisor. Each program lasts two years and results in a diploma. Students receive hands-on training through courses such as construction materials, construction drawings, framing methods, quantity surveying, contracts in society and computer aided design. Applicants may enroll with a variety of qualifications, including the pre-technology Ontario College Certificate, Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate, Academic and Career Entrance Certificate and some summer employment in the construction industry.

Conestoga College offers a certificate program for the construction estimator job, with coursework including introduction to cost estimating, construction contract bid management, basic construction methods and technology, material estimating and methods and construction job site management. College applicants must have their Ontario Secondary School Diploma or be 19 or older, plus have knowledge of spreadsheets, architectural drawings and word processing. Applicants also are required to speak, write and understand the English language. The program is completed on a part-time basis with classes occurring in the winter, spring and fall semesters over a two-year period.
