Lawson State Community College offers a building construction program. Students can earn a short certificate upon completion of 26 credit hours. Completing 68 credit hours results in an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Courses include construction blueprint, construction management, concrete application and foundations and floors and walls. The program includes a cooperative work experience.

Reid State Technical College offers a building construction technology program. It provides students with the skills necessary to obtain an entry-level position in the construction trade. The school awards a diploma or a certificate to students who successfully meet the job skills standard set by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). These skills include roofing, cabinet construction, blueprint reading, interior and exterior finishing and drywall installation.

Wallace Community College offers a masonry program that covers construction disciplines such as brick veneering, cinder block installation and cement finishing. The full program consists of 59 credits, and successful graduates receive a certificate. A short certificate program is also available and requires the completion of only 18 credits. Cabinetry and Carpentry programs are also available at Wallace Community College.

ITT Technical Institute offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in construction management. The 180-credit program covers topics like building codes, site management, construction documents and construction safety. Students receive training on the computer software programs required for construction management positions. The Bessemer, AL campus of ITT offers small class sizes, usually ranging between 15 and 30 students.

The Construction Education Foundation of Alabama offers programs in carpentry, masonry, sheet metal and welding. All have a core component that covers basic safety, construction math, hand tools, power tools, blueprints and rigging. The classes are held one night a week (two nights for the accelerated program) for four hours each. Students receive a certificate that is recognized by the NCCER.
