Vermont Trade Schools

Vermont is the second-largest state in New England, after Maine. It is bounded on the north by the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario, and on the other sides by New York, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Although heavily clear-cut in the 19th century the state is now heavily forested once again, restoring its natural beauty. The state is known for the rolling Green Mountain range and lush agricultural valleys.
  1. Community College of Vermont

    • Community College of Vermont operates on a distributed model. Rather than a small number of full-scale campuses, it oversees a dozen smaller facilities around the state, referred to as "Learning Centers." Courses are available online as well. The school offers a list of 18 associate degrees and 12 career certificates, and its credits can be transferred to degree-granting institutions in the area.

    Vermont Technical College

    • Vermont Tech is located in the small town of Randolph Center, with a satellite college in Williston. The school offers more than 30 associate degrees and bachelor's degrees in a variety of fields. Academic offerings are centered around engineering and construction-related courses, though various other programs include automotive, agricultural, dental, nursing and computer-related courses.

    Champlain College

    • Champlain College in Burlington has been in operation since 1878. The school has a mixture of academic and technical programs, the latter with an emphasis on hands-on internships. A program called "Bring Your Own Business" allows student entrepreneurs to structure a course load around the specific needs of their own startup plans. The school also administers international campuses in Montreal, Canada, and Dublin, Ireland.

    Specialized Schools

    • Vermont has several schools offering education in specialized fields. These include Vermont Law School, Spark Teacher Education Institute, the New England Culinary Institute and the Center for Cartoon Studies. Vermont Law is one of the nation's few stand-alone law schools, operating independently of a university (it has partnerships in place with Yale, Dartmouth, Cambridge and others for dual degrees). Spark Teacher Education Institute provides an intensive one-year program, delivered entirely "live" in a classroom setting with a mentor. New England Culinary Institute offers the full range of culinary and culinary management programs, while the Center for Cartoon Studies trains future cartoonists, editorial cartoonists and graphic novelists.
