Alamance Community College offers a Fire Protection Technology diploma, which can be completed in five semesters. Individuals must complete 41 credit hours to earn a diploma, and the program includes such courses as firefighting strategies, fire prevention, building construction, mathematics, general psychology, sprinklers and fire protection law. The program includes a mix of classroom and laboratory training. The college also offers a Management Certificate. Coastal Carolina Community College offers an associate in applied science degree, diploma or certificate options as part of their Fire Protection Technology program. The two-year associate degree program includes 68 credit hours, the one-year diploma includes 38 credit hours and the certificate programs range from 12 to 16 credit hours. Durham Technical Community College offers an associate in applied science degree and two certificate options as part of its Fire Protection Technology program. The associate degree requires 73 credit hours for graduation. Most of the courses are taught in the evenings and include instruction in fire prevention, education, detection, emergency management, fire protection law and fire service supervision. Also available are Fire Management and Wildland Fire Suppression certificate programs.
