The Aviation Systems Technology program at Guilford Technical Community College offers a certificate and an associate degree in Applied Science. The degree and certificate will reflect both the airframe and powerplant FAA rating. The college offers day and evening classes.
Wayne Community College offers an associate degree in Applied Science in Aviation Systems Technology. The program prepares students to take FAA practical airframe and powerplant examinations. Students will be trained in airframe and powerplant inspection, maintenance and repair. Additional instruction will be given on interpreting FAA regulations and guidelines. Courses include aircraft welding, aircraft landing gear systems, engine fuel systems and communication and navigation systems. The program is four semesters long.
The Institute of Aeronautical Technology at Craven Community College prepares students for work on military and civilian aircraft. Hands-on training is performed on small private planes. The program length is four semesters plus two summer terms. Students study aviation physics, basic electricity, fluid lines and fittings, and hydraulic and pneumatic power systems.
