The Carolinas College of Health Sciences offers a one-year degree program for students of medical technology. The program is available to students who already have a bachelor's degree, preferably in the field of science. The program is designed to get students ready to enter the field of medical technology and also to take a national exam for certification in medical technology.
The program consists of six classes, including clinical chemistry, clinical microscopy, immunohematology, immunology, clinical microbiology and a special study.

Catawba College, located in Salisbury, NC, offers a bachelor's of science degree in Medical Technology. This program is designed to prepare students for entry-level work in the field of medical technology, as well as to prepare students for the national certification exam conducted by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Students complete a full four-year college program at Catawba College; the first three years involve completing all general and orientation course requirements and at least 16 study hours of biology and 20 study hours of chemistry. It is also recommended that students complete courses in physics, genetics, statistics and computer programming. The fourth year of the student's college career is spent in the School of Medical Technology associated with the college, where the student completes courses such as cell biology, microbiology and immunology and analytical chemistry.

Elon University in Elon, NC also offers a bachelor's of science degree in the field of Medical Technology. Like the course at Catawba College, students complete three years of previous training to complete all other requirements for graduation before requesting a transfer to an affiliated hospital to complete the final year of training. Students can also choose to complete a bachelor's degree in a related field and then complete further training in the field of Medical Technology.
