Central Piedmont Community College is located in Charlotte, North Carolina. CPCC maintains a diploma program in medical assisting for those interested in a career in health care. While in the program, students partake in courses such as office procedures, medical transcription, ethical medical issues, legal medical issues and patient care. Students that complete the program can sit for the national exam to become certified medical assistants. A high school diploma or GED is required to gain admittance, as well as CPR certification, a background check and the required immunizations. New programs start every spring, summer and fall. Credits earned in this program can be applied to the medical assisting associate degree program offered at CPCC. Tuition assistance is offered to those who apply and qualify.

ECPI College of Technology--which is located in Greensboro, North Carolina--offers an associate degree in medical assisting. Students who are accepted into the program take courses in human biology, pharmacology, computer applications and clinical procedures. The medical assisting program at ECPI prepares students to perform various administrative and clinical tasks, from scheduling patients to taking patient histories.
