Brown Mackie College is a private post-seconadary institution with 24 locations nationwide. The Cincinnati branch is home to more than 1,300 students and offers both a diploma and an Associate of Applied Science degree program in medical assisting. Students in the degree program take courses in medical office assisting, billing and coding, health records management, monitoring patient vital signs and pharmacology administration. Cincinnati State Technical Community College is a public, two-year school with more than 15,000 students. Among the school's 100 programs of study is a four-term certificate in medical assisting. Required courses in the curriculum include medical laboratory procedures, public health disaster preparedness, health care informatics, billing and coding, medical law, human development and ethics. All students in the program must complete an externship during their final term in order to qualify for graduation. In addition to federal and state financial aid programs, Cincinnati State offers work study and a limited number of scholarships. Child care is available on campus for students who are parents. Students also have access to a health club and gymnasium, dining facilities, intramural sports and a variety of student organizations.

National College is a for-profit system of two-year career colleges found throughout Ohio and in a number of neighboring states. The college operates a branch in Cincinnati, which is home to around 500 students. The school offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in medical assisting with required coursework includes computing, medical terminology, pharmacology dosing calculations, patient transport, finance and both invasive and non-invasive medical procedures. Qualified students may receive federal or state financial aid while attending National College as well as veteran's benefits or tuition reimbursement.
