National Security Masters Programs

Homeland security has become a prominent issue in the United States, and graduates of national security master's programs will be at the forefront of this exciting field. Since the Department of Homeland Security was established in 2003, many colleges have begun offering degrees in national security, and job opportunities are growing. Upon graduation, you can find jobs at the local, state and federal level with excellent pay and benefits.
  1. Northcentral University

    • Northcentral University in Arizona offers a master of business administration degree, with a homeland security specialization. This degree is designed to prepare you for executive positions in law enforcement, public safety, disaster preparedness, crisis management and counterterrorism. The program requires the completion of 36 units, with at least 18 in the specialization. The homeland security courses include Terrorism and Countermeasures, in which you'll study the history of terrorism and ways to respond to the use of weapons of mass destruction. Homeland Security Transportation looks at methods of securing the transportation industry. Other specialization classes include International Crime and Terrorism, Homeland Security Risk Management, and Strategy and Intelligence.

    Institute of World Politics

    • The Institute of World Politics in Washington, D.C., offers a master of arts in statecraft and national security. To graduate, you must complete at least 52 units, with at least 16 in one of three specializations: intelligence, national security and defense studies or public diplomacy and political warfare. Core courses should preferably be completed before taking the specialization classes. The core courses include Economics for Foreign Policy Makers; Geography and Strategy; and International Relations, Statecraft and Integrated Strategy.

    Tiffin University

    • Tiffin University in Ohio offers an online master of science degree in criminal justice, with a homeland security administration concentration. The program requires that you complete 30 credits, including nine specialization courses, over three semesters. You also must have an accredited bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. However, those applicants with a GPA of at least 2.5 and five or more years of professional work experience will be considered. The specialization courses include Administration of Strategic and Actionable Intelligence, in which you'll study how intelligence is used in law enforcement and the different methods of collecting data. Other courses include Legal and Ethical Issues in Homeland Security and Continental United States (CONUS): Border/Transportation Security.
