Masters in Divinity Programs

According to the Denver Seminary's website, "The Master of Divinity is the ideal degree for those planning to enter ordained ministry, whether as pastors or chaplains or in other ministry roles." Master of Divinity graduates are equipped to lead congregations and parishes or to continue on into doctorate programs in theology. Universities around the world offer Master of Divinity programs, and you can even earn a Master of Divinity online.

    • The Denver Seminary's three-year Master of Divinity program prepares students for the ministry or for a doctoral program in theology. The seminary encourages students to choose one concentration from among 11 as preparation for a doctoral program. If you're interested in applying to the Master of Divinity program, you must have a four-year undergraduate degree and a 2.5 or better undergraduate GPA.

    Notre Dame

    • Dating back to 1968, Notre Dame University's Master of Divinity program educates students to become ministers in the Roman Catholic Church. The three-year program includes field experience, learning about Catholic traditions and training in pastoral care. The application deadline for fall admission is Feb. 1. All students receive a scholarship for the entire cost of tuition. Admission requirements include GRE scores of 500 or higher in verbal and quantitative, and 4.5 or higher in analytical writing. Notre Dame also requires recommendations from at least three instructors, 18 credits of philosophy and 12 hours in theology or religious studies.

    Regent University

    • Regent University's Master of Divinity program requires 90 credit hours of coursework to complete. You can choose between two concentrations: practical theology or missiology (missionary studies). To apply, you must have at least a four-year undergraduate degree.

    Wake Forest

    • The 90-hour, three-year Wake Forest Master of Divinity Program includes supervised learning in a ministerial setting during the second year. To apply, you'll need four letters of recommendation, a personal and an academic essay, and a 2.8 or better undergrad GPA.

    Christian Leadership University

    • Christian Leadership University offers a Masters of Divinity program entirely online. According to the university's website, the program helps students develop their "ability to easily and consistently hear the voice of God." 50% of the coursework for the Master of Divinity may be from other colleges (25%) and from life experiences (25%.) The program's concentrations are in theology, ministry, and biblical studies.
