Illinois State University offers a master's program in the field of actuarial science. Students can pursue a master's with a thesis or a master's without a thesis. Students choosing to do a thesis need 30 credit hours of courses. Those who do not do a thesis must complete 32 hours of classes and a professional internship, project or exam. Actuarial graduate classes include actuarial modeling, applications of actuarial principles, regression, time series analysis, and mathematical finance and investment models. Other master's courses include finite sampling, multivariate statistics, fundamentals of econometrics, and finance insurance and law.

Temple University in Philadelphia has a master's program in actuarial sciences that is designed to cover topics students will find on professional actuarial exams. The program requires 10 courses for graduation-- nine actuarial courses and one elective from risk management and insurance courses. Courses include the theory of interest, actuarial economics, financial analysis and strategy, derivatives, probability theory, regression time series and forecasting. Students must also take three actuarial modeling classes. The first introduces random variables which measure a person's lifetime while the second modeling class introduces multiple life functions. The final class covers models of compound distribution, credibility methods, and survival, frequency and severity estimation. Students must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average to graduate from the master's program.
