George Mason University offers an applied developmental psychology graduate degree, which focuses primarily on child development. Topics of study include assessment of human development at various levels, as well as planning and evaluating programs to foster healthy development. Stanford University was founded in 1891 in Stanford, California, offering one of the first opportunities for students on the West Coast to earn a graduate degree. According to the school's website, Stanford has more than 65 graduate departments and programs, as well as exchange programs with the Berkeley and San Francisco campuses of the University of California. The school also boasts that 86 percent of its graduate students receive financial assistance other than loans either from Stanford itself or alternative sources.
