Community Colleges in Jamaica

Education in Jamaica was once nearly unheard of. Until the early 1970's, the Jamaican government placed little to no emphasis on education at any level. In 1972, the government initiated drastic change to the system in an effort to improve overall education, with special attention given to literacy. Since then, education in Jamaica has increased by leaps and bounds. There are now several universities and community colleges found there.
  1. Montego Bay Community College

    • Montego Bay Community College, known as the "university" college in Jamaica, was established in 1975 under the direction of the Minister of Education and the Governor General of Jamaica, Sir Howard Cooke. Students who attend Montego Bay Community College can enter programs that prepare them for careers in food service, cosmetology, business, hospitality, computer studies, fashion design, tourism, entertainment, architecture, industrial systems, maintenance, etc.
