Medical Schools in Colorado

Colorado offers several options for the prospective medical student. These options include one traditional medical program, offered by the University of Colorado Denver at its Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. Training in Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, Insurance Coding and several other fields is available at Concorde College in Aurora. Pima Medical Institute in Colorado Springs and Denver offers associate degrees and certificate programs in an array of medical, dental and veterinary specialties.

    • The University of Colorado Denver is a public university that serves over 29,000 students, offers 115 different study programs and maintains 13 schools and colleges on two campuses. According to the university, its 227-acre Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora is “the largest academic health center between Chicago, Texas and the West Coast,” treating more than 500,000 patients annually and employing 2000 faculty members. Medical classes take place at the Medical Center, but students may pursue pre-med classes at the University’s downtown Denver campus. In addition to the School of Medicine, the University operates a College of Nursing, School of Dental Medicine, College of Nursing and School of Public Health.

    Concorde Career College

    • Concorde Career College in Aurora is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Concorde trains students in a variety of career-oriented specialties, including Medical Assisting, Surgical Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Radiologic Technology and Nursing. Courses are intended to give students the opportunity for rapid licensure (as applicable) and professional placement. Several specialties also offer cross-training in administrative tasks.

    Pima Medical Institute

    • Pima Medical Institute began in 1972, and was accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools in 1983. Pima offers two Colorado locations: Denver, which opened in 1988, and Colorado Springs, opened in 2002. Specialties offered include Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Pharmacy Technician and Phlebotomy Technician. Pima offers additional specialties at its Denver location, including opthalmic and radiologic programs.
