Part of a network of technical colleges located in nine different regions of the state, Northwest Louisiana Technical College's Shreveport-Bossier branch offers a variety of training programs, many with the promise of some type of accreditation at the end. Training programs include practical nursing, electrician, welding and culinary studies, among many others. Training programs last anywhere from two semesters to two years. Financial aid is available, including Federal Pell grants and other federal student aid.
The American School of Business offers a number of technical programs that prepare students for working in specific professions, and students receive the added benefit of postgraduation job placement. Courses last from seven to 10 months and include specialties such as Medical Records Transcriptionist, Computer Systems Specialist, Heating and Air Conditioning Technician and Medical Office Specialist. A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required before admission, and federal financial aid is available.
Guy's Academy is an accredited beauty school offering a number of training courses for those interested in cosmetology, including courses in manicures, general cosmetology, aesthetics and a combined course including aesthetics and manicuring. Courses last from 20 to 40 weeks depending on the program. Attendees are taught the basic skills needed to pass the appropriate state licensing exam for their discipline. Financial aid is available, including monthly payments made to the school and federal financial aid. Students must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. to be admitted.
The Diesel Driving Academy in Shreveport is one of four schools operated by the same company in the Arkansas-Texas-Louisiana region. The course prepares students for obtaining their commercial driver's license and includes coursework behind the wheel as well as in the classroom. Students must meet several criteria to attend, including being at least 21 years old, having a valid driver's license and passing a drug screening and physical exam.
Blue Cliff College in Shreveport is one of seven branches spread throughout Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. The Shreveport branch offers a number of trade programs in various medical and aesthetic fields, including medical assisting, cosmetology and massage training. Like most other trade schools in the city, Blue Cliff offers placement assistance for its graduates and allows you to apply for federal financial aid. In-house financial aid is also available for qualified students. You must have a GED or high school diploma to be admitted.
