The Pennsylvania Gunsmith School (PGS) offers a Master Gunsmithing program as a two-year course (lasting 16 months). The PGS program focuses solely on gunsmithing, allowing students to learn in a shop setting with hands-on training. The teachers are professional gunsmiths. Areas of study range from gun-repair basics to complex customization of firearms.
PGS encourages potential students to arrange a visit to the school to meet with enrollment personnel and see the actual training program in action. Classes start each month, with the exception of July and December. Financial aid is available, including Pell grants, federal direct student loans, Workforce Investment Act and private loan programs. PGS is a member of the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology.

The Murray State College course offers training in areas including basic mill and lathe machine operation, rifle re-barreling, stock-making and engraving. You must furnish your own firearms, tools and other supplies for the program.
Housing is available on the Murray State campus, and the school must receive enrollment fees four weeks before the start of your first class.
