Students at the American School of Business, located in Shreveport, can receive training as a heating and air conditioning technician, medical records transcriptionist, medical office specialist, computerized administrative assistant or train in computer systems or computerized accounting. New classes start every five weeks. Qualified students are eligible for federal financial aid, and the school is approved for veterans' assistance. Students must be at least 17 years of age and have either a high school diploma or GED.
The Blue Cliff College in Shreveport trains students in massage therapy, cosmetology and esthetics, as well as offering programs in medical and dental assisting, medical office administration. Students can also choose to train as a dialysis technician or take continuing education courses. The school requires students to be over 18 and possess a GED or high school diploma. Prospective students are accepted through an interview process. Blue Cliff participates in the federal student aid program as well as state programs such as the Louisiana Vocational Rehabilitation services and the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students.
Shreveport's Diesel Driving Academy trains students to obtain their commercial driver's licenses and begin work as truck drivers. The school offers placement assistance, and qualified students may be eligible for financial aid from various sources, including the Workforce Investment Act, the Veterans' Administration, the state of Louisiana and the federal government. An admissions representative can assist students with financial aid applications. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and acceptable record, be 21 or older and pass the physical and drug screen required by the Department of Transportation.
Students at Guy's Academy of Cosmetology in Shreveport can train as a cosmetologist, manicurist, esthetician or take a combined course of study in all areas. The school prepares students to take the federal and state written exams as well as the state practical exam that lead to licensure. Applicants must be 17 or older, with a GED or diploma. Students should be citizens or legal non-citizens and have not be under indictment or previously convicted of a felony. Financial aid is available through federal and state programs; the school's financial aid officer can assist students in determining the types of aid for which they are eligible.
Unitech Training Academy has five campuses in Louisiana, including one in West Monroe. Students can learn massage therapy, dental assisting or sonography. The school offers training as an EKG/phlebotomy technician, physical therapy technician or medical administrative assistant. Students can also choose programs in pharmacy technician preparedness and computer information systems. Students must be at least 17 years of age, and admission to some programs requires a GED or diploma. Financial assistance is available for qualified students.
