The University of Akron offers a six- or seven-year program combining a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degree. First, students have to go through phase one of the program, which includes obtaining an undergraduate degree. Medical students study subjects like anatomy, physiology and microbiology. Students must pass the required courses and pass the medical college administration test before entering phase two (medical school) of the program. The University of Akron only admits 35 students into this degree option. Medical students also perform in clinical studies.

In conjunction with Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM) and other medical schools, Akron General offers 11 training programs where students can study subjects like emergency medicine, general surgery, psychiatry, urology and pharmacy.

The Akron branch of Brown Mackie College offers an associate degree in fields such as medical assisting, billing, medical coding, pharmacy technology, surgical technology, health care administration and nursing.
