The medical sector of Universite Catholique de Louvain is made up of four faculties---research, medicine, pharmaceutical, and health and society---all located on the Brussels campus. These faculties make up a network of 35 health care institutions and 24 hospitals around the country that take students as interns and allow them to get hands-on experience. Research is also performed at all of these institutions where students may intern, allowing them to work on major medical research projects with real doctors and scientists studying new medicines and techniques in the health care industry.

Vrije Universiteit Brussel is an offshoot of the French-speaking Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) which believed in the separation of education, and state and church control. They have a medical campus where all medical classes are taught, ranging from medicine to pharmacology to life sciences and dentistry to biomedical research. The university hospital is also located on that campus and is one of the largest hospitals in Belgium with more then 25,000 patients admitted annually. This makes Vrije Universiteit Brussel one of the premiere places for medical students to study and learn.
