Founded in 1973, the School of Nursing at the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga offers Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorates in Nursing. The Bachelor's program focuses on two tracks: the traditional Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a gateway RN to BSN path. The School of Nursing also offers two master's concentrations: Family Nurse Practicioner and Nurse Anesthesia and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. All programs are geared towards helping students take and pass the State Health Exam to become fully licensed nurses.
The Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing at Chattanooga State provides both day and night Associate's Degree programs for nursing students, as well as License Practical Nurse (LPN) and Paramedic Transition courses. Upon completion of these courses, the school awards the degree of Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing, and students can take the state licensing exam. Students wishing to apply must provide a completed application, TEAS score and have completed prerequisite classes or transitional programs.
Located approximately 30 miles from Chattanooga, the Cleveland State Community College Nursing Department offers a nursing program that prepares graduates for the state licensing exam and an associate's degree career in nursing. Prerequisites for entry include a completed application, completed prerequisite classes, a placement test and a 75 percent or higher score on the HESI math and verbal exam.
About 45 miles away from Chattanooga, Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee provides another academic option for prospective nursing students. The Fort Sanders Nursing Department offers a BSN program for pre-licensure and registered nursing students. The curriculum focuses on general nursing standards up to end of life care skills. Theory and clinical nursing courses are taught at the Knoxville campus of the college. As a school closely associated with the United Methodist Church, Tennessee Wesleyan also offers guidance on providing spiritual care to patients.
