List of Nursing Schools in Tennessee

Tennessee nursing schools offer programs for both the traditional and non-traditional student. Students can spend one year studying to become a licensed professional nurse, or they may earn a two-year associate degree or four-year bachelor's degree to become a registered nurse. Graduate students can earn a master's degree or doctoral degree in nursing from a number of Tennessee schools. Finally, students earning a second bachelor's degree or preparing for the national nursing exam can choose programs specific to their needs.

Graduate students choose from one of 11 concentrations in fields like nursing administration, advanced nursing care and nursing-related research. Students can complete their doctorate in nursing coursework in as little as four consecutive semesters, and they then write the dissertation in their specialized nursing field.

    University of Memphis

    • The Loewenburg School of Nursing at the University of Memphis offers both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in nursing. Undergraduate students focus on leadership and decision-making skills, patient-care technologies and ethical nursing behaviors. Graduate students choose from concentrations like nursing administration, nursing education and nursing infomatics. The graduate nursing program also offers a family nurse practitioner post-master's certificate program, as well as an executive MSN program.

    Belmont University

    • Belmont University in Nashville also offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing. The four-year Bachelor of Science of nursing program prepares student to take the national nursing licensure exam. Courses include pharmacology, pathophysiology, nutrition for health care and mental health nursing concepts.

    • East Tennessee State University is located in Johnson City, and it offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing. Undergraduate students take courses like communication for health professionals and care of older adults. Graduate students can earn master's degrees in nursing as well as a Ph.D. in nursing.
