Remington College offers a dental assisting diploma at its Nashville location. The curriculum includes courses on chair-side assisting, oral anatomy and clinical oral radiology. In addition to class work, students complete an externship at a dental office that gives them an opportunity to work with real patients. The entire academic program can be completed in eight months. Remington College prepares all students to take the necessary certification exams, including the infection control exam and registered dental assistant exam.

Daymar Institute has a dental assisting program in Nashville with a flexible schedule. The program teaches students how to provide chair-side assistance and complete a number of laboratory related procedures, including X-rays. The dental assisting program at Daymar Institute is sponsored by the Capital City Dental Society. Graduates will be prepared to take the Tennessee State Board exams to become a registered dental assistant. Daymar Institute helps its graduates with job placement.

The Dental Staff School has a dental assisting program in Franklin that can be completed in 10 weeks. Classes meet once a week, on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some of the skills taught in the program are sterilization of instruments, preparation of dental trays and processing of dental X-ray film. Students also learn about general anatomy and legal aspects of dental assisting. The cost of the program includes all tuition, books and educational DVDs. Internships are available during the program, and job placement is offered after graduation.
