The Associate of Applied Science Dental Hygiene program offered by Phoenix College was designed with the intention to give its graduates the technical and interpersonal skills necessary to pursue a career as a dental hygienist. Students attending classes full time are expected to complete the program in two years. The school combines classroom training with clinical practices to give students a glimpse of the working dental environment. Courses include emergency medicine, pharmacology, oral pathology, periodontics, dental materials and community oral health. Mesa Community College, located on the east side of Phoenix in Mesa, offers students the opportunity to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in the field of Dental Hygiene in approximately two years.
