List of Dental Assistant Schools in the U.S.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 36 percent growth in the labor market for dental assistants from 2008 to 2018, making employment prospects excellent. Education averages one year for an entry-level diploma, or two years for an associate degree. Most states require licensure or registration before employment can be sought. License renewal can also depend on continued education.



There are over 200 accredited dental assistant courses in the U.S. Entry requirements vary, but the majority demand prospective students are high school graduates.
  1. Americare School Of Nursing, Florida

    • This Florida-based medical college offers dental assistant students over 1,010 hours of clinical and classroom instruction in general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral and Maxillofacial surgery.

    Allied College, Missouri

    • Allied College offers Missouri students a dental assisting diploma as well as an AAS degree. Both programs teach dental x-ray procedures, laboratory procedures, chair-side equipment terminology and use, dental office administration and other critical skills. Students also complete an externship offering hands-on experience.

    Remington College.

    • Remington College offers an eight-month diploma course designed for entry level employment. Course modules cover dental anatomy, radiology and the fundamentals of dental science. Students are also offered clinical experience if they are successful in the first seven modules. The course is offered on three campuses: Cleveland West, Nashville and Tampa.

    Lincoln Technical Institute, Rhode Island and Florida

    • Lincoln Technical Institutes instruct students in four-handed dentistry, a very specific technique requiring dentists and assistants to work synthetically. Chair-side assistance, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, surgical procedures and dental radiology are also taught. Graduates are prepared to sit the Radiography National Board Examination. The course is offered in Rhode Island and Florida.

    U.S. Career Institute, Distance Learning

    • An online course that includes patient care, equipment use, disease knowledge, oral pathology pediatric dentistry and office administration. The program is around four months long and is accredited by the DETC. Graduates seek clinical experience privately.

    Ultimate Medical Academy

    • The program instructs students about how to assist dentists during routine cleanings, advanced procedures and office operations. There is also radiology training.

      Financial aid is available for qualifying students. The faculty are drawn from the dental industry. The school offers a flexible learning schedule with classes running during daytime, evening and weekends. The school actively seeks clinical placements for students. The course is available at two Florida campuses, Clearwater and Florida.

    Sacramento City College

    • This course offers a diploma and runs for one academic year of learning and one summer of clinical experience. An associate degree is also available. Students gain a deep understanding of biodental science, dental anatomy, radiology, nutrition and prevention, chair-side assisting and office management. Financial aid is available for qualifying students.

      Graduates are eligible to take the National Board Examination and upon passing become certified dental assistants. This certificate is recognized throughout the United States. Graduates may then seek licensure in any state.
