geared toward applicants with previous patient care experience. About 34 to 38 students are accepted each year. Required to gain admission are a bachelor's degree and completion of prerequisite in cell biology, college algebra, statistics and organic chemistry. Students must also be certified in basic life support and have at least 2,000 hours of paid patient care. It is possible to dual-enroll at Saint Francis University to earn a master's in physician assistant studies. Financial assistance is available to qualified students.

At D'Youville College in Buffalo, New York, students can apply for the physician assistant combined bachelor's/master's program consisting of 4.5 years of lecture, lab and hands-on courses. This program is ideal for three types of applicants: freshmen, previous college graduates and students who have completed some of the prerequisite courses. D'Youville's physician assistant program is affordable, since it is an accelerated program. Students prepare to work as physician assistants by gaining experience in various specialties, such as emergency medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics and family medicine. Applicants must have a minimum high school or college GPA of 3.0, three years of math, two years of chemistry, one year of biology and 80 hours of patient contact experience. Anne Arundel Community College, in Arnold, Maryland, offers a 25-month physician assistant program. Students take 101 credit hours in such courses as anatomy, physical examination, pharmacology, radiology, pediatric medicine, emergency medicine and pathophysiology, among others. It is possible to dual-enroll at Saint Francis University for 10 online hours each week to receive a master's degree in PA studies. Forty students are admitted annually. Required to gain acceptance are a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0, certain prerequisite courses and 1,400 hours of health care experience. Students can apply for tuition assistance.
