    • Minneapolis Community and Technical College is a large, urban school serving more than 13,000 students and with a minority enrollment of more than 42 percent. The career programs division of the college has more than 60 courses for students seeking a technical education. Programs include such trades as air traffic controller, information technology, machine tooling, HVAC, welding, media arts, culinary arts and phlebotomy. Students can learn their trades during the day, evening or even on weekends.

    Saint Paul College

    • Saint Paul College has been offering technical education to the Twin Cities area since 1910. The college has seven divisions, with four that appeal to the technical or career-minded student: computers, engineering and technology, health and service and transportation, construction and building. The computer program offers training in programming, networking and social media ("Web 2.0") development. The engineering and technology program includes such trades as machine tooling, surveying and CNC operation. Health and service has programs like culinary arts, cosmetology, medical lab tech and practical nursing. The transportation, construction and building department has courses for students interested in automotive repair, carpentry, welding, plumbing and metalworking. The career and placement center helps students identify their career path, craft resumes and prepare for interviews as well as by holding job fairs.

    Dunwoody College of Technology

    • Dunwoody College of Technology offers training in cutting-edge technology fields, with an emphasis on computer-based education. In addition to giving students the skills they need to succeed at doing their jobs through direct personal experience, the school also places an emphasis on a student's work ethic, ability to work with others and attendance. Students at Dunwoody can earn associate of applied science, bachelor of science, certificates and diplomas. Programs include automotive, design, construction, robotics and interior design, among others. Dunwoody's career services program offers placement assistance for alumni throughout their entire career at no additional charge.

    Comfort Services LLC

    • Comfort Services LLC is for the student seeking a career in health care services. At Comfort Services, students can pursue a career certificate as a certified nursing assistant, home health aide or personal care assistant. Certificates can be earned within a month, high school graduation is not a prerequisite, and it accepts students whose first language is not English. The school has the backing of the Minnesota Department of Health.
