  1. Minneapolis Community and Technical College

    • Minneapolis Community and Technical College has a career programs department that caters specifically to the student interested in vocational or technical education. The technical programs include such diverse selections as air traffic control, culinary arts, construction, machine tooling, architecture, computer networking, barbering and dental assisting. High school students who qualify can take classes at Minneapolis Community and Technical College at no charge, earning high school and college credit at the same time.

    Saint Paul College

    • Saint Paul College is the oldest public two-year college in the Twin Cities area, offering classes in both liberal arts and technical career training. Five programs at the college are targeted toward students seeking the latter, including business (with courses in accounting, administration, management, hospitality and marketing), computers (where students may focus on programming, networking and Web 2.0 development), engineering and technology (including CNC, machine tooling and surveying), health and service (programs include practical nursing, cosmetology and culinary arts) and transportation, construction and building (with courses in automotive, carpentry, plumbing, sheet metal and welding).

    Dakota County Technical College

    • Dakota County Technical College offers training for students in both skilled manual trades and contemporary computer technologies. Manual trade programs at Dakota County include masonry, electrical lineworking, welding, automotive (including a program specifically geared toward General Motors vehicles), truck driving and railroad conducting. Other trades available at Dakota County include architectural design, interior design, medical assisting, practical nursing and emergency medical technician. A career services office is available for students and alumni alike to help evaluate career options, further training and work on resumes and cover letters.

    Hennepin Technical College

    • Hennepin Technical College has two campuses including one in Brooklyn Park and another in Eden Prairie. Available courses include accounting, architectural drafting, HVAC, carpentry, civil engineering, landscaping, floral design, robotics, electronics, engineering drafting, mechanical drafting, graphic design, audio production and culinary arts among others. The Career Development Services office offers free career counseling about technical education and career transition workshops for $50 as of March 2010. More personalized training is available in a variety of fields at Hennepin Technical College through the college's Customized Training and Continuing Education department.
