The college offers its Associate of Applied Science in dental hygiene at its branch in Wilmington. Athens Technical College is a public institution located 60 miles from Atlanta in the rural community of Athens, Georgia. The college's dental hygiene program requires two years of full-time study to complete and culminates in an Associate of Applied Science degree. Admission to the program is highly competitive, and only 16 students are invited to attend per year. To be considered, students must have a high school diploma or GED, take a placement examination and provide three letters of recommendation. Those admitted to the program complete six clinical rotations and take classes in anatomy, dental materials, radiology and peridontology. Athens Technical offers a two-year student warranty program that guarantees graduates' employers will be satisfied with the level of their skills. If a student's employer feels her skills are lacking, the college will provide him re-training at no cost. Federal and state financial aid is available for qualified students. Founded in 1947, the Oregon Institute of Technology is a public, four-year university located 60 miles from Medford in the central-southern region community of Klamath Falls. Home to more than 3,300 students, the university offers both associate and bachelor's degrees in dental hygiene not only at its main campus, but also in La Grande and Salem. The baccalaureate program features eight clinical rotations and optional international study-abroad internship. The curriculum also includes courses in ethics, anesthesia, research, sociology and technical report writing. In addition to the traditional bachelor's program, the college also offers an entirely-online baccalaureate degree course of study for licensed dental hygienists who have only an associate degree in the field. In addition to federal and state financial aid programs, the school offers a limited number of work-study placements and institutional scholarships.
