Dental Hygienist Technical Schools

Dental hygienists are in high demand. In the years between 2008 and 2018, the field is expected to expand by 36 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos097.htm). These jobs pay well, too, with median annual incomes for dental hygienists at $66,570 as of May 2008. To get into the field of dental hygiene you need to start with an education. Fortunately, there are a number of schools throughout the United States to give you the training you need.
  1. American Career College

    • The American Career College in Orange County and Los Angeles County, California, offers a training program in dental assisting. The program requires nine months to finish and includes training in areas such as fundamentals of the trade, laboratory work, pharmacology, oral surgery, radiology, endodontics and CPR. Students who have not graduated from high school or obtained an equivalency degree can pursue a GED at American Career College before beginning the dental hygiene program. The school also offers externships (external learning opportunities) to gain real-world experience.
