Dental Hygienist Schools in Texas

According to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job field for dental hygienists is expected to grow by 36 percent through the year 2018, far higher than many other professions. To secure a position as a dental hygienist requires specialized training, available through colleges and training centers across the country. In Texas, several schools offer dental hygiene education, from certificates to associate's and bachelor's programs in the field, educating through both in-class activities and clinical experience.
  1. Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry

    • Aspiring dental hygienists can enroll at the Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry to receive a bachelor or master of science degree in dental hygiene. Students can join one of four on-campus dental fraternities (open to both female and male candidates) and are required to participate in Tooth Talk, a one-day educational program where students make dental presentations to children's classrooms throughout the Dallas area. The school also offers opportunities to work with the Children's Oral Health Center and the Dallas County Sealant Initiative. Students can receive counseling (academic, psychological and career-related) and take advantage of libraries and labs. Mentors are also available by request. Applicants to the master of dental hygiene program must have a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene, take the Graduate Records and National Board Exams, and hold a license to practice dental hygiene.
