Located in Warwick, Rhode Island, the Community College of Rhode Island offers a program in dental hygiene that includes an online pre-course, four and a half days of didactic course work and clinical work, and training at CCRI’s dental hygiene clinic. Courses in the program cover subjects such as patient assessment, ostegology, pharmacology of local anesthetics, drug calculations, and “local anesthesia armamentarium.” Students will learn through a variety of lectures, lab work, and clinical sessions.

Located in Lincoln, Rhode Island, the Lincoln Technical Institute offers students a dental hygiene program that provides students with a foundation in dentistry with training and hands-on learning opportunities in areas such as “preventive dentistry, including four-handed dentistry, chair-side assistance, diagnostics, pediatric dentistry, orthodontic procedures, surgical procedures, and dental radiology.” The course also instructs students on the business management aspects of dentistry. Graduates are eligible to test for the Radiography National Board Examination.

The program allows students to gain experience in all aspects of dental assisting including dental laboratory work, office administration and “chairside” assisting.
