The Community College of Rhode Island in Lincoln offers an associate degree in dental hygiene. Quinsigamond Community College offers a dental hygiene associate degree program. The college is located about 65 miles from Rhode Island in Worcester, Massachusetts. Through the program, students learn how to promote oral health, perform oral prophylaxis, take dental radiographs, apply fluoride treatments, complete preliminary examinations and place pit and fissure sealants. Courses cover topics such as neck and head anatomy, oral hygiene process, dental radiology, dental materials and periodontology. Students in the program can also practice their skills at an on-campus clinic. Following the program, students are qualified to work in private dental offices, hospitals, clinics, schools or government health agencies at the local, state and federal levels. The program also prepares students to pass the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and the Northeast Regional Board Examination. To be admitted to the program, students must have a 3.0 grade point average on prior coursework in high school or college and have taken all science and math courses within five years of application. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.
