Dental Laboratory Technician Schools

Working in a dental laboratory gives you the opportunity to utilize hands-on applications in prosthetic dentistry. From creating crowns to fabricating dentures, becoming a dental technician is a specialized profession. There are a variety of schools to provide classroom and practical training to help students advance in the dental laboratory.
  1. Los Angeles Community College

    • Los Angeles Community College offers a dental technology program that's accredited by the American Dental Association. College instructors use modern equipment along with hands-on instruction. Classes cover techniques for dental prosthesis fabrication. This includes how to create crowns and bridges, ceramics, partial and complete dentures, and braces. You'll also learn about dental anatomy, ethics, materials and lab management. Students must have a high school diploma or GED.

    Erie Community College

    • Located in Buffalo, New York, the Erie Community College dental lab program is taught at the school's South Campus. You'll be instructed in prosthetic dentistry. Second year students receive the opportunity to work with dentists in private practices and at commercial dental laboratories. You'll learn about the design, production, and fabrication of various dental prostheses. This includes partial and full dentures, crowns, bridges and orthodontic appliances. Instructors will detail techniques, materials and equipment. Implant and cosmetic dentistry are also discussed. You'll also learn about ceramics technology, biomedical materials and anatomy.

    Columbus State Community College

    • The Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio offers a dental laboratory technician course that teaches students how to make prostheses using wax, stainless steel, porcelain and precious metals. The college offers a two-year associate's degree and one-year certificate program. The one-year program is broken into four areas of study, including complete dentures, crowns, partial dentures and orthodontics. The one-year program becomes a two-year degree with the addition of business classes.

    Atlanta Technical College

    • Atlanta Technical College offers an accredited program by the American Dental Association in dental laboratory technology. The program provides academic and occupational hands-on training in dental prosthetics. Students receive a Dental Laboratory Technology diploma. Students learn about complete dentures, partial dentures, bridges and dental ceramics. Anatomy and physiology are also part of the curriculum.
