Located approximately 35 miles outside of Birmingham in Hanceville, Wallace State Community College offers an associate in applied science degree in dental hygiene. This five-semester program combines general education coursework in English, communication, chemistry, biology, math and social science with specialized instruction and hands-on training in dental health. Candidates must complete prerequisite coursework in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, math, English and social science with a GPA of 2.5 or higher prior to admission. West Georgia Technical College is located approximately 115 miles from Birmingham in Douglasville, Georgia. It offers a two-year associate in applied science degree program in dental hygiene. Applicants must complete preparatory courses in introductory health care, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, psychology and sociology with an average grade of "C" or higher. Cardiopulmonary (CPR) certification is also required.
