Belmont University is a Christian school in Tennessee that offers education in the liberal arts as well as in a variety of professional studies. The University of Tennessee's College of Veterinary Medicine offers a three-year program in avian and zoological medicine within the Department of Small Animals Clinical Sciences. During this residency program, a student will work with a total of four faculty members throughout the three required years. The main focus of the program will be in clinical training in captive wildlife medicine, though teaching and research responsibilities will also exist. In order to complete the program, students must complete a faculty-approved clinical research project and put together manuscripts for publication in relevant journals. Once completed, the student will have met the certification requirements of the American College of Zoological Medicine.

Lipscomb University is college located in Nashville, Tennessee that offers courses in zoology. All of these are through the school's biology program, which offers Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees, as well as a minor. There are three main courses in the major that teach zoology. The first is called Principles of Biology: Diversity of Ecology. This is an introduction course into the major concepts of the life sciences, and it emphasizes botany, ecology, and zoology. The class is a great segue into the other zoology courses taught at the university such as Field Zoology and Vertebrate Zoology.
