Tennessee Engineering Colleges

Engineers create solutions to problems, such as clean burning fuel for automobiles or making buildings stronger during earthquakes. Engineering students in Tennessee can choose to specialize in civil, mechanical, electrical or aerospace fields. Engineers that provide services to the public are required by the state of Tennessee to be licensed by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying or the National Society of Professional Engineers.

    • The University of Tennessee's College of Engineering is located in Knoxville and is recognized by the ABET Engineering Accreditation Program. The school offers specialized bachelor's and master's degree programs in biosystem, biomolecular, environmental, electrical, industrial, nuclear and aerospace engineering. The University of Tennessee has distance education opportunities available to students as well as cooperative education and internships in the engineering field. Acceptance decisions are based on GPA, SAT or ACT scores, completion of core academic subjects, leadership activities and recommendations from teachers and counselors.

    Tennessee Tech University

    • Tennessee Tech University is located in Cookeville and offers a bachelor's degree in engineering. The engineering program is recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Specialization programs include chemical, civil, computer, industrial, manufacturing and mechanical engineering. Engineering applicants must have at least a 2.35 GPA as well as ACT composite and math scores of at least 20. Engineering scholarships are available to eligible students.

    University of Memphis

    • The University of Memphis offers a bachelor's degree in engineering technology which is recognized by the Engineering Accreditation Commission and is 128-semester hours in length. Coursework includes physics, systems modeling, electronic communication systems and product realization. Applicants must provide a high school transcript or GED score report as well as the score report from the SAT or ACT exam. Admission to the engineering program has strict requirements, including a GPA of at least 2.5 and acceptable grades in prerequisite courses, such as calculus, chemistry of materials and manufacturing processes.
