    • Rice University was founded in 1912 a few years after the death of Houston businessman William Marsh Rice, who left $4.6 million in his will to establish an academic institution. The George R.     • The University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering was established in 1941, and today offers six engineering programs enrolling over 2500 undergraduate and graduate students. The Cullen College of Engineering boasts a cutting-edge Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department that undertakes a special research focus on issues of the petrochemical industry.

    • The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) was founded in 1974 and offers baccalaureate degrees in 43 areas and four master's degree programs. The UHD College of Sciences and Technology offers three Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.T.) degrees, all of which are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
