Engineering Management Colleges

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the demand for engineering managers will increase by 6 percent from 2008 through 2018. To enter the field, a bachelor's degree is generally mandatory, though some employers prefer candidates with a master's. A number of private and public colleges and universities offer programs specifically designed to prepare students for management positions in engineering.
  1. Columbia University

    • Founded in 1754, Columbia University is a private, nonsectarian institution in New York City. In 2010, U.S. News and World Report ranked Columbia University eighth among all U.S. universities. Admission to the school is highly selective; only 10 percent of those who apply receive an invitation to enroll, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. The university grants a bachelor of science in operations research with a specialization in engineering management. Among the courses required for the major are mathematics, production inventory planning and control, economics, mathematical programming and design, and management of service systems. Approximately 63 percent of all freshmen and 53 percent of all continuing undergraduate students at Columbia receive financial aid, Barron's says. Also offered is a master of science in engineering technology management.
