Physician Assistant Online Schools

The next time you visit a doctor's office, don't be surprised if a physician assistant sees you. That's because a physician assistant can perform the same duties as a doctor. She can diagnose and take care of illnesses and write prescriptions. A physician assistant, however, must be supervised by a physician. Just like a doctor, a physician assistant attends professional schooling. Thanks to the Internet, a physician assistant can attend online schools to gain more knowledge in her field.
  1. A.T. Still University of Health Services

    • A.T. Still University of Health Sciences offers a master of science degree in physician assistant studies. It is a 40 credit hour course of study. You will choose to study either clinical medicine or education/leadership. Clinical medicine focuses on expanding the clinical knowledge of practicing physician assistants. You must complete 400 hours of direct patient care while you are in the master's program, in addition to taking didactic courses. The education/leadership track is geared for physician assistants who want to focus on the theory and application of educating health care professionals. In order to be admitted into the master's degree and specialize in one of these two studies, you must have previously graduated from a physician assistant school with a bachelor's degree. You also must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and a minimum physician assistant GPA of 2.5. Even if you don't have a bachelor's degree, A.T. Still University of Health Services does provide a non-degree option. To qualify for this option, you must submit additional documentation, such as a cover letter and resume, portfolio of your work as a physician assistant, transcripts, and National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants scores. If A.T. Still University of Health Services decides that you qualify, it will issue you the amount of credits that are needed to enroll in the master's program.
