Dental Hygienist Programs in the Phoenix Area

While sitting in an office with a dental hygienist may not be anyone's idea of a good time, the service hygienist's provide is important. Dental hygienists clean and polish teeth and educate patients on oral hygiene. Some hygienists also provide fluoride treatments and apply sealants. Several schools in the Phoenix area offer relevant training programs for dental hygienists.
  1. Phoenix College

    • Phoenix College is a two-year community college and the flagship institution of the Maricopa Community College District. The school offers an associate degree in dental hygiene that includes in-class instruction and hands-on clinical experience. The program emphasizes ethical standards, operation and maintenance of dental equipment and working in a team. Students in their second year complete clinical work at one of several local facilities, including St. Vincent de Paul Dental Clinic and Gompers Dental Health Center. It is a fulltime program, and students must be available to take classes Monday through Friday.

    Rio Salado College

    • Rio Salado College is located in Tempe, just east of Phoenix, and offers an associate degree in dental hygiene. The two-year program includes classroom coursework and clinical experience. Required curriculum includes courses in head and neck anatomy, dental radiology and prevention of dental disease. Students must earn a grade of C or better in all classes. Students must complete three clinical rotations, which are worth a total of 13 units.

    Carrington College

    • Carrington College, formerly Apollo College, has campuses throughout the Phoenix area, including Mesa. The school offers an associate degree program in dental hygiene that emphasizes preventive and therapeutic oral health care. The program also focuses on the legal and professional standards of the dental hygiene field. Applicants must be at least 17 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. An admissions interview is also required.
