King Abdulaziz University is a public institution of higher education that is located in the city coastal city of Jeddah, which is the second largest city in the country. The university was established in 1967 and, as of January 2010, it has an annual enrollment of approximately 70,000 students. In accordance with traditional Islamic culture, the university offers two separate campuses for its male and female students. Each campus features its own recreation and athletic facilities, cultural centers, dormitories, libraries and dining halls. Umm Al-Qura University is a public university located in the holy city of Mecca, the home of Masjid al Haram. The university traces its roots back to 1949, when it was initially started as the College of Islamic Law. The college continued to expand and in 1981 it developed into its present incarnation. Umm Al-Qura University boasts an annual enrollment of approximately 30,000 degree-seeking students, which includes both males and females. The university offers 17 colleges and 70 academic departments; however, the university’s main degree seeking programs include Arabic Language Studies and Islamic Law. Umm Al-Qura University also offers undergraduate programs in pharmacy, computer information systems, domestic and international economics, engineering, business and medicine.
