Considered one of the most prestigious universities in Ukraine, this school was founded in 1834 and named after Taras Shevchenko, a major figure in Ukrainian literature and painting. It maintains more faculties and departments than any other University in Ukraine and provides training of specialists in a greater number of fields than any other comparable Ukrainian educational institution.
