Founded in 1905, the 750-acre University of Malaya is one of Malaysia’s oldest universities. Rimba Ilmu Botanical Gardens encompass 197 acres of the property. According to its website, the university averages 13,617 undergraduate and 5,826 graduate students. The school is recognized for its research programs, winning the National Intellectual Property Award twice. According to its website, the university enrolls about 22,000 undergraduate and graduate students each semester from around the world. Academic staff consists of 1,996 local and international instructors. This institute of higher learning offers about 200 undergraduate and graduate programs in bio-medical engineering, bio-science, education, built-environment and management. Opened since 1983, International Islamic University Malaysia consists of about 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students from more than 90 countries on its four campuses during an academic session. The 14 university academic departments include law, education, medicine, science, dentistry, health sciences, engineering and language. Its postgraduate department offers more than 70 master- and doctorate-degree programs in fields such as architecture, economics, engineering, history, science and Islamic studies.
