The Los Angeles Hunter Jumper Association awards one scholarship annually to a dedicated and skilled equestrian. The Horsemaster Scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship that aims to reward students who show ample understanding of the hunter/jumper sport, of equines, and of equestrian history. The scholarship is composed of three parts, including a riding phase, a hands-on phase, and a written exam. In the riding phase, students must submit film of themselves jumping during a competition in that same year. The film should show the student's ability to jump and handle the horse. In the hands-on phase, students must schedule an appointment with the Los Angeles Hunter Jumper Association and show up to perform hands-on skills involving the horse and riding equipment. Each appointment takes approximately 20 minutes. In the written exam, students must complete a written test at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center that covers a broad spectrum of riding knowledge.
